What You Need To Know Before Seeing A Personal Stylist
When you see a normal stylist you're going to get a person that will tell you what they think looks good on you. Whilst this is useful it doesn't empower you with the skills you need to make well-informed decisions about your presentation. You're buying a service as opposed to investing in yourself.
For most women this is fine but as we mature we want different outcomes. We no longer want attention but the right kind of attention from the right people. It's no longer enough to be seen as attractive, we want to be seen as professional or feminine.
If you're going to spend time and money improving your presentation why only do half the job?
Your personal styling can be broken down into 3 main areas
1 - The effect it has on you
2 - The effect it has on others
3 - How colour looks on you
A traditional stylist doesn’t go into these topics. They certainly don't cut, style and colour your hair to match your overall message. They don’t combine your makeup with this either. So if you want to pick up several outfits that someone thinks look good on you, a traditional personal stylist is better suited for you.
However, if you want to use your personal presentation to become more influential to yourself and others then I invite you to read on.
The Effortless Elegance styling program is unlike anything you've come across before. It's a combination of almost 3 decades of education and personal development. It's not only about what to wear, but how to wear it and why. I don't just stop at your clothes as I incorporate your haircut, makeup, skincare, undergarments, accessories and fragrance into your overall image transformation.
You gain the ability to pull together an authentic look for you, both quickly and easily.
This isn't an upgrade. It's a revolution and move to the next level. The aim is to give you the confidence to use your presentation to get more of what you want from life. Success, romance or community are all areas in which you can use your personal image to become a woman of greater influence.
The stakes are higher today than they've ever been. Technology and the advancement of AI are changing our world faster than we're ready for. Knowledge is becoming less of the advantage it once was. I believe the ability to connect with people and build community will become an ever more useful tool and important for quality of life.
So before you go and see a stylist of any kind consider the following. Does the new outfit represent you authentically, does it match your personality, style profile and the message you wish to convey? A large part of your brain is devoted to visual processing, so more can be said faster with your presentation. Why not harness that?
Your appearance and your results
Dr Karen Pine ( a long-time fashion psychologist ) researches the topic of clothing and influence. She found that women are rated more positively on confidence, salary, and flexibility when wearing a certain fit of clothes. So just the fit of clothes sends an important message about who you are and how you'd like to be perceived.
In another bit of research Karen conducted she found a significant improvement in the same attributes as above for me when they wore a bespoke suit as opposed to off-the-shelf. Fit aside, that's not even considering the style of clothes you might be wearing. Then there is your hair, makeup and colours. All of which play their important parts.
So the impact your presentation has on others is significant and must not be ignored if you want to become more influential. At the end of the day, many of us deal with the judgments of others. Even if these judgments impact us negatively. Judging others is just how humans work. Cognitive Psychologists tell us these behaviours are called Concepts, Prototypes and Mental Sets. It's just how our brains work, and these behaviours are designed to make our lives easier.
What about the impact your clothing has on you?
Head and Shoulders did some research where they interviewed 2000 women and 92% "admitted to having hang-ups, with the most frequent obstacle being anxiety about their appearance". The article this was mentioned in discussed confidence and whether the lack of it held them back, which they claimed it did. For us ladies, looking and feeling good is our inner support base.
I see so many ladies who have lost their inner power and strength because of how they feel about their appearance.
Researchers made ladies perform maths problems in a jumper (sweater), and then in their swimsuit. When the women dressed in just swimsuits, they performed almost half as well as opposed to when dressed in jumpers
Being conscious or concerned about your appearance in any way can be a major setback for you. Sending the wrong message with your presentation just makes it worse. Many ladies claim to be confident, yet struggle with certain parts of their appearance. Those that have mastered confidence can then appear harsh and unapproachable.
I'm sure you've heard about how a large part of our communication is visual or non-verbal. The ratio is often argued but one thing we do know is that the visual part will win.
It's called the McGurk effect. When there are mixed signals, what people see will ALWAYS win. If your hair and makeup look harsh, but you sound otherwise, then you will be judged as harsh. The visual signal wins. I could go on but I think you get the message.
What I do isn't just personal styling. It goes beyond that. I'm an image consultant and coach who brings together clothing, hair, colour and makeup to create a conscious message to the viewer. Sometimes there are blocks in the way that prevent us from becoming fully self-expressed, and they need to be cleared.

The solution is easy
What if you could create new opportunities for yourself just by changing your personal style? What if you had a personal stylist show you exactly what works well for your personality, style and body shape? What if that same person also showed you how to dress, accessorise, and do your hair and makeup so you looked the best you could in every situation? What if you could also save time doing it? What positive changes would that bring to your life?
